Pushing through
Doing what you love and what you are passionate about
So what?
We previously posted about what passion is, why you can’t wait for passion to find you and why you need to find your passion and cultivate it. ICYMI, you need to find your passion. By finding your passion, you will have:
- More personal and professional freedom;
- Improved self-awareness and confidence;
- Increased safety circle; and
- Simpler life.
This post discusses the third and final step of finding your passion.
Pushing through
Whether it be your relationship, job, career or hobby, it’s never always fun and games. There are always high and low moments, ups and downs. Your passion is no different. Persevering and pushing through is the third and final step of finding your passion. This applies to both your search for your passion and trying out your passion.
Don’t quit
If you give up your search after a few days or weeks, you will surely fail and never find your passion. Continuing with your journey of exploration will be the key to your success. You might have thought that you discovered your passion but find that you aren’t as passionate or keen as you once were. There will come a time that you may need to start over and find a new passion.
As mentioned above, don’t expect your passion to be free of stress, setbacks or difficulties. Anything worthwhile in our life comes with its own struggles and challenges. It’s important to remember this, especially when you are trying to make a living out of your passion. It’s never easy to earn a living. Side hustles and businesses take time to cultivate and make them successful.
Have self-love
Thoughts appear and disappear in your mind throughout the day. You can’t control what comes to your mind but what you can control is your response to your thoughts. When negative thoughts appear, you can let it control your emotions and dictate your next moves or simply let it go. And when positive thoughts and affirmations come, you should grasp those moments and fuel your passion. Practice self-love by paying attention to your positive thoughts and emotions and letting go of negative ones.
Don’t come up with excuses
Make excuses the thing of the past. As we mentioned before, people either expect their passion to appear in front of them or use the absence of passion for their inaction, stagnating job prospect or progression, crappy relationships and financial stress. Not only that, we make excuses to not continue with our passion, citing lack of time, previous failures and other sorts of lame reasons. Push through and persevere. At the end of the day, the time you invest in finding your passion will not go to waste. You will be happier and improve your wellbeing regardless of the outcome of your search for your passion.
My experience
Whilst I can’t comment on turning my passion into a side hustle or business, I’ve struggled to find something that I’m passionate about that I can do as a hobby. To explore my creativity, I dabbled with woodworking, gardening, sewing and 3D printing. Whilst the first three didn’t pan out to be my passions, they still keep me busy when I’m in need to do specific, ad-hoc things whereas 3D printing is something that I ended up partaking in regularly and frequently.
What now?
- Have you tried out a few of the potential passions that you identified from Part 1?
- Push through by not quitting, having self-love and not coming up with excuses.
- The time and effort will not go to waste.
