Living intentionally

Change your life by living intentionally

Find your own “true north”

So what?

Imagine yourself waking up every morning, not groggy or tired, with purpose and energy. Living intentionally not only allows that but the following as well:

  • Not be bombarded with shoulds, coulds and woulds;
  • Have a strong foundation for good decision making;
  • Bring more awareness and presence into your life;
  • Better alignment with your core values; and
  • Have healthier and more meaningful relationships.

Foundation

First thing you need to do is to lay your foundation for living intentionally. Consider the following:

  • Be present and more aware of your surroundings.
  • Know that your life and its journey are made up of the choices and decisions you make on opportunities that are thrown at you.
  • Take a step back and evaluate your environment and surroundings. You are only good as the people you surround yourself with. You are what you eat. And you are the product of your environment.
  • Self examination: You have to know who you are. You have to identify your talents, skillsets, passions, strengths and weaknesses.

Practical steps

Once you’ve laid your foundation, you need to take practical steps. Find what works best for you. Below are examples that have worked well for us and those around us. There are plenty of information out there on how-to’s of the below.

  • Don’t compare yourself to others;
  • Define and have a purpose;
  • Set SMART goals;
  • Get rid of distractions;
  • Learn from others and experts;
  • Remove clutter especially in your home;
  • Learn to manage your money and finances;
  • Invest your money smartly and wisely;
  • Invest in yourself; and
  • Cultivate a growth mindset.

My experience

As someone that is extremely reliant on routines, I was always on “auto-pilot” in getting things done. At a glance, my life seemed intentional. I had focus, motivation and dedication. I was career focused and did well in my field.
I relentlessly chased after my goals and dreams. In one of my pivotal moments, I realised that life is not just about having routines and getting things done despite my routines having good intentions and purpose. I went back to the basics. I laid a foundation.

What now?

  • Set your foundation for success.
  • Choose 3 of the practical steps above and stick to it for 3 months.
  • You can even get a journal specifically designed for SMART goals.
