Make the year 2022 one that you move
Earn, learn and burn
So what?
Make 2022 the year that you move (your body) regardless of whether or not you have a new year resolution, or whatever your new year resolution is. Moving is something that you can incorporate no matter what your circumstances are. By moving, you will:
- Take a break from your challenges, setbacks, roles and responsibilities;
- Disperse your emotions and energy to other parts of your body;
- Decrease the risk of heart disease;
- Strengthen your body whilst improving coordination, balance and stability; and
- Improve your cardiorespiratory system (including your lung function).
Forms of moving
As you know, we are all about simplifying your life. Below are the things you can do with only your own body or commonly found household items:
- Walking
- Running
- Lunges
- Squats
- Yoga
- Pilates
- Pushups
- Situps
- Stretching
- Crawling
Earn
Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, more of us are able to work from home which allows additional flexibility whilst we are working. Whether you work for yourself or someone else, there are ways that you can earn and burn (i.e. moving). Here’s how we have been earning and burning:
- Taking calls
- Reviewing deliverables
- Responding to texts, tweets, social media posts and emails
- Outlining and writing blog posts
Learn
Whether you are a visual, auditory, tactile or reading learner, you can incorporate burning into learning without a hitch. If you are a visual learner, jump onto SlideShare or Udemy to take online courses and attend webinars. If you are an auditory learning, listen to audiobooks and podcasts. If you are a tactile learner, take up a sport or other activities. If you are a reading learner, download ebooks, slides and articles to read whilst moving.
My experience
I’m all about routine. Before the pandemic, my routine was to get up early, go to work, work in the office, drive to client sites for meetings, drive back to the office and come home for Daddy duties. As a result of the pandemic, I started to incorporate working from home into my routine. In my effort to move more amongst other reasons, I’m taking calls whilst walking outside and listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Per my estimation, I’m burning 300 calories in addition to what I burn from my regular workouts and runs.
What now?
- Think of things that you do on a daily basis.
- Identify how you can integrate the above examples into your daily actions.
- Start by integrating them three time a day.
