Asking yourself why

Why? Why? Why?

‌Asking yourself “why” to improve your life

So what?

Asking the question “why” and always questioning everything is not and should not be only for toddlers and juveniles. They aren’t afraid to do so. You, as an adult, shouldn’t be either. Asking “why” has the following benefits:

  • Eliminates assumptions and confusions;
  • Gives you purpose on your pursuits;
  • Identifies your real needs, wants and likes;
  • Leads you to a healthier and happier life.

This post will focus on asking yourself why, that is internally asking why. We will write another post on externally asking why.

Challenging yourself

Stepping outside and debating yourself is an effective way to inspecting and being honest with yourself. Introspection is the key to self-awareness. There are three main areas of introspections. First is self-identification which sets the foundation. Second is focused on your happiness. Third is self-improvement.

Foundation

You need to set a solid foundation for an effective introspections. Do you know who you are? Do you know your values and principles that guide your life and its path? Asking yourself “who am I?” and “what is valuable to me?” defines who you are and what is important to you.

Happiness

You are ready to ask yourself and find out what bring you happiness and joy once you have set your foundation. What is the purpose of “all this” if you are not happier? Focus on your happiness and life satisfaction by asking yourself “what bring me joy?” and “what does success mean to me?”. By doing so, you will know exactly what you need to do to live a happier life. You will cut through the clutter and chatter and get straight to what brings you true enjoyment in life.

Improvement

An important aspect of challenging yourself is improving yourself. You will be wasting your time, effort and money if you are focus on the wrong things especially when it comes to self-improvement. Avoid wastage by identifying your strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, figure out what you need to improve to get to where you want to be to live a happier life.

My experience

As I mentioned in our last post, I’m all about routine. Prior to focusing on self-awareness, I lived and operated as if I were a robot. I didn’t question anything once things became routine to me. As long as it worked and fit into my system, I did it. I didn’t question as to whether the things that I was doing and buying were valuable to me and brought me happiness. Whilst it requires constant attention and effort for me not to fall into my old habits, I question what I do and where I go (physically and mentally) which allows me to focus on what brings me joy and is valuable to me.

What now?

  • Where are you in your journey to self-awareness and introspection?
  • Start asking yourself “why” and question yourself by asking the right questions that set a solid foundation and bring you true happiness and joy.
