In this post, we will take a moment to give you practical things that you can do to improve your mental health.
Things to try
- Prioritise breaks, contemplations and leisurely activities
- Share your concerns, stressed and/or worries
- Spend quality face-to-face time with those you love
- Reduce your levels of stress by taking up relaxation practices
- Live a meaningful and purposeful life
- Show your love to those you love
- Reduce anxiety by having a laugh
- Be in the present by practicing mindfulness
- Eat more omega-3 fatty acids
- Smile at those around you
- Be thankful for what you have and don’t have
My experience
I never really minded my mental health until a few years ago. When I started on my health journey, I only focused on my physical health. I thought I was doing all the right things by going to the gym, eating a healthy diet and living an active lifestyle. You can say that I neglected my mental health. I didn’t do any of the things that I suggested above. And let me tell you, I was a mess. I lost my temper easily. I wasn’t able to regulate my emotions. I reacted to stress and anxiety by drinking and smoking.
